Looking Back on a Standout Season at PSM Icehouse

Looking back on one of the strongest fall and winter seasons in facility history, PSM Icehouse has plenty to celebrate. Record participation, strong public skating numbers, and the highest number of hosted events in facility history all point to a venue with real momentum heading into summer.

A Season Worth Celebrating

Yes, winter was busy– but the strongest takeaway is not that PSM Icehouse continues to serve Fort Wayne well beyond the holiday season, with steady participation across fall, winter, and early spring.

“While winter always brings strong energy to the rink, what means the most to us is seeing PSM Icehouse continue to build momentum across every part of the facility,” said Kaleigh Schrock, General Manager. “From public skating and beginner programs to special events and everyday family visits, this season showed just how important the rink has become to Fort Wayne.”

That consistency matters. It shows the rink as a reliable community asset that continues drawing families, casual skaters, athletes, and event guests throughout the year.

A Strong Gateway to the Ice

Public sessions remain one of the clearest entry points into the facility, giving first-time skaters and returning guests an easy way to get on the ice.

From there, the development pipeline is growing in multiple directions. Record Learn to Skate participation and membership, paired with strong engagement in Try Hockey for Free and Try Skating for Free, reflect a healthy and expanding entry point for both hockey and figure skating.

And with 15 alumni players competing at the AAA level, the long-term impact is already visible.

“We are seeing real momentum at every stage of the skater’s journey,” said Alena Lunin, Skating Director. “More families are taking that first step through Learn to Skate and Try Skating or Hockey for Free, and over time that kind of access builds confidence, skills, and a deeper connection to hockey and figure skating.”

Event Growth Adds to the Momentum

Participation is only part of the story – The rink also recorded the highest number of hosted events in facility history, with programming that included showcases, holiday events, sled hockey, figure skating, roller tournaments, and other community-centered offerings.

That momentum is not slowing down. With camps, tournaments, roller derby, and additional events already on the calendar, PSM Icehouse is carrying a strong season directly into summer.

Growth Backed by Investment

Over the past three years, PSM Icehouse has completed upgrades across ice operations, player spaces, and shared guest areas.

Those improvements include HVAC work, new duct socks, a new desiccant wheel, a Zamboni, roof improvements, a lobby floor update, a party room upgrade, and multiple locker room and support-space enhancements.

Together, those updates help position the facility for even greater year-round use, stronger event support, and a better experience for both athletes and everyday guests in every season ahead.

The Bottom Line

PSM Icehouse is what healthy facility growth looks like: consistent public use, a stronger beginner pipeline, expanding event activity, and investments that support future demand.

For Fort Wayne, this is its year-round home for recreation, development, and community connection.
