One of the largest roller hockey tournaments in the United States is returning to Fort Wayne this summer.

For nearly two weeks, PSM Icehouse will transform into a national championship venue as State Wars Hockey brings together athletes, teams, and families from across the country for a high-energy, multi-division tournament experience.

With thousands of visitors expected and nonstop competition on display, this event is more than just hockey. It’s a major moment for the facility, the sport, and the Fort Wayne community.

What is State Wars Hockey?

State Wars is a national roller hockey tournament unlike any other.

Players don’t just compete for a team. They represent their state or country, creating a level of pride and competition that sets this event apart.

“This tournament stands out because it delivers a true national-level experience,” said Kaleigh Schrock. “It’s not just games. It’s a large-scale, multi-week championship that brings together a wide range of ages, skill levels, and even a pro division.”

The event continues to grow each year. When PSM Icehouse first hosted State Wars in 2016, 274 teams participated. In 2025, more than 370 teams competed, highlighting the scale and momentum of the tournament nationally.

A Proven Host Venue

PSM Icehouse has become a key destination for State Wars over the years, hosting the event in:

  • 2016

  • 2019

  • 2020

  • 2023

  • 2026

Each return reinforces Fort Wayne’s reputation as a city capable of hosting large-scale national events.

“Hosting State Wars is more than just an event for PSM Icehouse,” said Schrock. “It’s a strategic opportunity. It drives significant revenue, elevates our national profile, and reinforces Fort Wayne as a destination for major hockey events.”

Transforming the Facility for a National Event

Preparing for State Wars is no small task.

In the weeks leading up to the tournament, all three NHL-sized sheets of ice at PSM Icehouse are removed and converted into roller hockey surfaces. Operations scale up across the entire facility to support the volume of teams, games, and visitors.

“Preparing for State Wars is a full-facility commitment,” said Schrock. “It’s a major operational lift that impacts every part of the building.”

This transformation creates a unique championship environment designed specifically for high-level competition.

A Boost for Fort Wayne & Local Businesses

Beyond the rink, State Wars has delivered a meaningful impact across the entire Fort Wayne community in past years.

Previous tournaments have brought approximately 10,000 attendees to the area and generated an estimated $2.4 million in economic impact, supporting local hotels, restaurants, and attractions.

In partnership with Visit Fort Wayne, the city is ready to welcome teams and families from across the country with a coordinated effort designed to enhance both the tournament experience and the visitor experience.

“We really roll out the welcome mat for events like State Wars,” said Emily Hill, Marketing Manager at Visit Fort Wayne. “From helping plan ahead with hotel coordination and local recommendations to being on-site during the event with guides, maps, and resources, our goal is to make sure every athlete and family has a great experience in Fort Wayne both on and off the rink.”

That preparation extends across the entire community. Local restaurants, shops, and businesses are given advance notice to prepare for the increased traffic, helping ensure a strong experience for visitors while creating additional hours for employees and increased revenue throughout the city.

“Events like State Wars don’t just bring competition to Fort Wayne, they bring real impact to our local businesses and help our community thrive,” Hill added.

With a wide range of premier sports facilities, family-friendly attractions, and easy access across the city, Fort Wayne continues to establish itself as a leading destination for sports tourism in the Midwest.
