Coach Spotlight: Andy Long

PSM Hockey Academy Staff Coach

At PSM Icehouse, player development starts with strong fundamentals, confidence, and a love for the game. Andy Long plays a key role in building that foundation for players at every stage.

From first steps on the ice to preparing players for game situations, Andy brings a coaching style that is both compassionate and driven, helping players grow beyond where they think they can go.

A Passion for the Game That Started Early

Andy’s hockey journey began with family.

His grandfather, Eddie Long, known locally as “Mr. Komet,” introduced him to the game and helped shape his early experiences on the ice.

One of his favorite memories still reflects that connection today.

“Skating and playing with my grandfather at the coliseum until he was 81.”

That experience built a lifelong passion for hockey and continues to influence how Andy approaches coaching.

Built Through Hard Work and Resilience

Andy’s path in hockey was not easy.

“With a smaller stature it’s always been a battle and I always overcame obstacles.”

That mindset carries into every session he leads. He understands what it takes to work through challenges, build confidence, and earn success through effort.

It is a perspective that connects with players who are developing their game and learning how to compete.

What Separates Good from Great

For Andy, success comes down to effort and mindset.

“The ones who work harder on and off the ice have better success. A leader, listener and great teammate who looks out for others.”

It is not just about talent. It is about how players show up, support their teammates, and commit to getting better every day.

“Players can develop in a short time if they apply themselves.”
