Hockey Is for Everyone — And It Starts Here AT PSM ICEHOUSE

This winter, the U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team once again showed the world what’s possible.

From Olympic success to growing participation across the country, girls hockey continues to gain momentum — inspiring more young athletes than ever to step onto the ice for the first time.

That same opportunity is coming to Fort Wayne.

On May 2, PSM Icehouse will host Girls Try Hockey for Free, a USA Hockey event designed to introduce girls to the game in a fun, welcoming, and beginner-friendly environment.

No experience needed. Just a willingness to try.

A First Step Into the Game

Starting something new can feel intimidating — especially a sport like hockey.

But this event is built to remove that barrier.

Girls Try Hockey for Free is designed specifically for beginners, giving players the chance to:

  • Get comfortable on the ice
  • Learn basic hockey skills
  • Build confidence in a supportive setting
  • Experience the fun of the game

With guidance from our experienced PSM Hockey Academy coaches, players are introduced to hockey in a way that is positive, encouraging, and fun from the very first step.

Growing the Game — One Player at a Time

The growth of girls hockey is happening at every level — from local programs to the Olympic stage.

At PSM Icehouse, that growth starts with creating opportunities like this.

“Hockey is for everyone, and events like this are such an important way to introduce the game the right way,” said Hockey Director Cameron Wirick. “We want every player to feel comfortable, supported, and excited to get on the ice for the first time.”

Why This Growth Matters

The growth of girls hockey is about more than just participation numbers.

It’s about creating opportunity.

When more girls step onto the ice, it builds confidence, expands access to sport, and creates a stronger, more inclusive hockey community.

At the local level, events like Girls Try Hockey for Free make that possible — giving players a simple, welcoming entry point into the game.

Why Families Love Try Hockey Events

For families, this is one of the easiest and most accessible ways to explore a new sport.

There’s no long-term commitment and no pressure — just a chance to see if it’s something your child enjoys.

It’s also a great opportunity to:

  • Stay active
  • Try something new
  • Build confidence
  • Meet other players and families

For many participants, this first experience becomes the start of something much bigger.

Their First Step Starts Here

Every hockey journey starts somewhere.

For many players, it starts with a single moment — stepping onto the ice for the first time.

This is that moment.
