Fort Wayne Skaters Head to U.S. Figure Skating Sectional Finals at PSM Icehouse

Fort Wayne Ice Skating Club High School Team 2026

Fort Wayne will host a major milestone for the local skating community this March as PSM Icehouse welcomes the 2026 U.S. Figure Skating Midwestern & Pacific Coast High School Sectional Finals. The championship event will take place March 27–29, 2026, bringing more than 350 high school athletes from across the Midwest and Pacific Coast regions to compete at one of the highest levels of high school figure skating.

Even more meaningful for the Fort Wayne skating community, 13 local skaters will take the ice — including the first-ever Fort Wayne high school team to compete at this level.

A Historic Moment for Fort Wayne Skating

The Sectional Finals are sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating, the national governing body for the sport in the United States. Skaters in grades 9–12 compete in a variety of events showcasing both technical skill and artistic performance.

Even more meaningful for the Fort Wayne skating community, 13 local skaters will take the ice — including the first-ever Fort Wayne high school team to compete at this level.

Competitions will include:

  • Excel and Well-Balanced Short Programs
  • Free Skate programs
  • Solo Dance events
  • Showcase performances
  • Duets and Trios
  • Team Maneuvers competitions

These events highlight the teamwork, school pride, and performance artistry that make high school figure skating uniquely exciting.

For Fort Wayne, hosting this championship is an important step forward for the city’s growing skating community.

“We are incredibly proud to welcome the Midwestern and Pacific Coast High School Sectional Finals to Fort Wayne for the first time,” said Alena Lunin, Skating Director of the PSM Skating Academy and Competition Chair for the event.

“This competition showcases not only high-level athleticism and artistry, but also the teamwork and school spirit that make high school skating so special. Having 13 local skaters compete — including our first Fort Wayne high school team — makes this weekend especially meaningful for our community.”

Spotlight on the Fort Wayne High School Team

The 2026 Sectional Finals will feature a historic moment for local skating, as Fort Wayne’s first high school team takes the ice alongside competitors from across the country.

Many of these athletes train year-round through the PSM Skating Academy and the Fort Wayne Ice Skating Club, which together provide a development pathway for skaters at every stage of their journey.

From their first Learn to Skate lessons to advanced competitive training, the athletes competing this weekend represent years of dedication, coaching, and community support.

For young skaters watching in the stands, the competition also provides an inspiring glimpse of what is possible through commitment and progression in the sport.

From Learn to Skate to Elite Competition

The event also reflects the full development pathway within U.S. Figure Skating programs.

At PSM Icehouse, skaters progress through programs such as:

This structured progression helps athletes grow both technically and artistically while building confidence on the ice.

“Our goal at the PSM Skating Academy is to support skaters at every stage of their journey,” Lunin said. “From first steps in Learn to Skate to competitive training, we’re proud to help athletes develop the skills, discipline, and confidence that carry them forward in the sport.”

Battle of the Blades Brings the Next Generation to the Ice

Adding to the excitement of championship weekend, PSM Icehouse will also host the Indiana State Series Battle of the Blades competition on March 28–29.

This Compete USA event, also sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating, welcomes younger athletes and first-time competitors, including skaters from Learn to Skate USA and Aspire programs.

Competitors as young as five years old will take the ice, creating a full weekend that showcases the entire skating pathway — from new competitors to elite high school athletes.

PSM Icehouse: A Hub for Competitive Figure Skating

Hosting both events reinforces PSM Icehouse’s role as a premier destination for figure skating in the region. The competition will utilize all three sheets of ice at the facility and will be officiated by approximately 35 U.S. Figure Skating officials.

More than 350 athletes, coaches, families, and officials are expected to attend throughout the weekend.

“Events like this highlight the strength of the skating community we’ve built here in Fort Wayne,” said Kaleigh Schrock, General Manager of PSM Icehouse. “We’re excited to welcome athletes and families from across the country and showcase both our facility and the incredible talent developing right here in our city.”
